Film Screening: Backdoor Doorbell Studio
Throughout June and July, Artspace Aotearoa hosted Backdoor-Doorbell Studio by Dieneke Jansen, a film-making studio enabling groups of local residents to create video works collaboratively. While the workshops themselves are valued in an art practice that frames process as an outcome, they also aim to make possible an experience of satisfaction and pride in creating and publicly sharing self-representations and expressions.
A range of narratives and visual ideas developed during the period, alongside self-made strategies for devising concepts and methods. Video works include: explorations of the local area, a documentary that focuses on public housing on Greys Ave, the celebration of Matariki as a public holiday, and personal connections with a whakataukī.
We will screen a number of completed and final draft videos from Backdoor-Doorbell Studio on Sunday at 4.00 pm, and celebrate the achievements of local residents with an afternoon tea.
All are welcome.
