Home Time: A workshop with Māpura Studios

Date Saturday 14 September 2024
Time 10:00am – 2:00pm
Location Artspace Aotearoa, 292 Karangahape Rd
Entry Invite only, information on access

This workshop is inspired by Kerry Deane’s painting Drawings (2024), included in the exhibition This is the house that jack built currently on show at Artspace Aotearoa. Kerry Deane is a Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland-based artist working out of Māpura studios. The scenes in his work Drawings document the artist's experience growing up in Karekare on his family's sheep farm.

Join Māpura Studios tutors in a workshop where participants will be guided to use a variety of processes including drawing, collage, painting and printmaking to create fragments that can be brought together in a ‘homely composition’, mixed media collage or assemblage. Through artmaking and kōrero participants will explore the idea of home and what this represents.

What does home mean for you? Where does home begin and end? What qualities make you feel at home somewhere? Who are your people that feel like home?
Tutors welcome participants to investigate the physical, social, emotional, cultural, and spiritual aspects of art making in a non-judgmental setting. The time can also be used to explore the idea of an internal home that we carry within us.

Please bring anything that might inspire you like photos, fabrics or objects as well as your lunch for the day. Suitable for ages 12+, participants under 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

This workshop has limited capacity, to RSVP email robbie@artspace.org.nz
