Re/Producing Alternative Futures

Speculating, reimagining, self-publishing, DIY-ing, eating, (re)producing, distributing, and other things unknown.

This workshop aims to create space to collectively speculate about alternative ways of living and organising through DIY print and publishing as tools to explore possible aesthetics and languages, starting from questions and areas of concern we’ll collect amongst the participants.

It is co-run by an adhoc motley crew consisting of Sanne Oorthuizen and Alec Steadman (chief curators, Cemeti-Institute for Art and Society, Yogyakarta), Cushla Donaldson (artist, Auckland) and Simon Barber (researcher, Auckland), and the Artspace team. Participants are invited to share their ideas, questions and energy, join in a collective discussion as well as form several working groups who during the workshop will publish something together, speculating on alternative political futures, forms of publishing and distribution.

This workshop is a pilot to an exhibition and workshops series that will be developed by Cemeti–Institute for Art and Society (Yogyakarta, Indonesia) in 2019, part of their broader programming line entitled Bodies of Power, Power for Bodies, thinking through how state and institutional power is manifested and implemented and what forms of support and control this exerts on individual and collective bodies.

We will have food and various publishing tools available during the workshop.
