Announcing LAI and Artspace Aotearoa residency recipient: Quishile Charan

We are pleased to announce Quishile Charan will undertake the La Trobe Art Institute and Artspace Aotearoa residency, traveling to Djaara/Bendigo in Regional Victoria, Australia for two weeks.
Drawing purpose from the Djaara season of harvest and growth, and the New Commissions exhibition season at Artspace Aotearoa, the residency offers the opportunity for relationship building and exchange for an emerging Aotearoa artist.
During Quishile's residency she's interested in embracing the space for pause and reflection and continuing ancestral ways of existing and resisting colonialism through her ancestors’ legacies of relationship-building.
Quishile Charan is an Indo-Fijian craft and social practitioner, researcher, writer and critical theorist who approaches craft as a science-fiction practice of building new worlds from the seeds of reality. Charan holds a PhD of Visual Arts, Auckland University of Technology, and has exhibited widely across the motu as well as in Melbourne, Sydney, Mumbai, Gwangju, Berlin and Vienna.
