Artspace Aotearoa Volunteers Programme

Seeking Expressions of Interest

We are excited to relaunch our volunteer programme in 2024. As an artist-led and artist-forward organisation we provide a variety of access points to experience, participate in, and contribute to our sector.
For those exploring a career in the arts or who wish to contribute in a hands-on way, the Volunteers Programme at Artspace Aotearoa is a special opportunity to learn more about our sector by getting behind the scenes of a leading small arts organistion that plays a fundamental role in the Aotearoa ecosystems.

In 2024 we are seeking two cohorts of up to five volunteers who will contribute to our work. Each cohort will be inducted into our organisation and will have clearly defined points of contribution over a half-year period.

As apart of Artspace Aotearoa’s Volunteer Programme you will:

  • Gain essential early professional experience
  • Contribute to a timely contemporary arts organisation
  • Meet and work with a broad spectrum of artists and arts professionals
  • Learn about gallery and exhibition making processes
  • Receive a complimentary subscription to The Kit
  • Have Artspace Aotearoa act as professional reference for future opportunities

Volunteer Programme 2024

Cohort A
March - July

  • Attend cohort induction lunch with volunteers and team
  • Work in pairs to look after the gallery and engage visitors
  • Opportunity to participate in an activation of the artwork by Charlotte Posenenske in a live event
  • Inventorise our Reading Room
    and More opportunities to get involved

Cohort B
August - December

  • Attend a cohort induction lunch with volunteers and team
  • Work in pairs to look after the gallery and engage visitors
  • Support the hosting and delivery of our end of year event
  • Inventorise our Reading Room
    and More opportunities to get involved

Qualities Required

  • A broad (entry) knowledge of contemporary art
  • A high standard of professionalism, initiative and attention to detail
  • Confidence with handling and discussing artworks
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence facilitating public inquiries and concerns
  • General administration skills
  • Ability to learn new things quickly and share with others
