Welcome to Emily Lyall: Kaiwhakamahiri Pirihi Taiwhenua Curatorial Intern for 2026

Artspace Aotearoa is pleased to announce Emily Lyall as our Kaiwhakamahiri Pirihi Taiwhenua Curatorial Intern for 2026.
Emily will deliver her own programme in our lower ground floor space, The Kit over the next ten months and assist with the main gallery’s operations.
Emily Lyall of Te Whakatōhea and Te Whānau-ā-Apanui is interested in exploring alternative modes of curation and exhibition-making, approaching her practice with an Indigenous lens. Her studies in Māori Visual Arts, Toioho ki Āpiti and Museum and Heritage Practice, Te Herenga Waka inform her passion for arts engagement and culture. Some of her recent work includes exhibiting at Te Manawa, curating for Toi Māori Aotearoa and interning at Te Papa Tongarewa in kaitiakitanga taonga Māori and education.
We’re excited to see her programme develop this year, programme details to come soon.
The curatorial internship is supported by Creative New Zealand Toi o Aotearoa 2025–2027.
