Annotated text: Rahul Hendriksen, Membranism, Wet Gaps, Archipelago Poetics

As part of the New Commissions Writers programme for 2026, each writer will publish an annotated text drawn from a larger reader the group has been close-reading as part of the year-long programme.

Writer Rahul Hendriksen has selected and annotated the text Membranism, Wet Gaps, Archipelago Poetics, 2010, by Lisa Samuels. Rahul chose Samuels' article to prompt a discussion around "interpretive contact" and the intensities of text writ large.

Rahul Hendriksen is an art writer and experimental poet who also teaches and studies at the University of Auckland. His writing has been published by galleries such as The Physics Room, and his poetry in journals including Sweet Mammalian.
