Fiona Clark’s edition for Artspace Aotearoa documents a bookshelf in Tikorangi, a settlement southeast of the Waitara River in North Taranaki, linked to the Maori fishing grounds threatened by the sewage and synthetic petrol plant at Motunui (the subject of Kai Moana 1979-81).

Fiona Clark’s photography resists conventional categorisation. Initially appearing to work within the traditions of mainstream documentary, Clarks’ commitment to documenting marginalised groups in society for over 20 years, aims to break down prejudice and social discrimination. While working in such contentious territory, the artist challenges the conventions of documentary photography as a stakeholder in contemporary society and cultural production.
