Meg Cranston’s editions for Artspace Aotearoa exemplify her playful and dynamic approach to collage, combining formal experimentation with form and recognizable references to culture and society.
Meg Cranston investigates the ways in which objects and imagery acquire meaning in our culture, and the intersections between individual and collective experience. Cranston’s work illustrates her appreciation of diverse aesthetics, utilising colour theory, fashion, design and supermarket advertising. Cranston's collages are energetic and witty, pairing monochromatic abstract forms and found imagery. Often using personal qualities and historical events as a starting point, Cranston investigates the formal status of the artwork and the ability of the artist to allow us to see the world in new ways.
