This two day lab offers an introduction to small scale casting techniques. Participants will develop comprehension of silicon and wax casting processes. Guided by artist Susu, participants will produce a mold and cast of an object of their choosing while discussing the core principles of these techniques.

The Introduction to Casting Skills Lab is suitable for early stage practitioners or those wanting a refresher.

Biography

Susu 蘇子誠 is a Taiwanese (Han, Min-nan) artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau, working in digital fabrication and casting, moving image and installation. They are interested in how material of languages and memories can be carried, and preserved as fragments through acts of travelling. In between environments of national boundaries, terrestrial bodies, the virtual, and the physical. Recent exhibitions include: and my roarings are poured out like the waters, Robert Heald Gallery (2023), Pōneke; Between the Gift and its Reprisal (2022), Artspace Aotearoa, Tāmaki Makaurau; Music Video (2022), play_station, Pōneke; and promising.space (2021), Window Gallery online.
