Hear from writer Joanna Cho whose new piece of writing BATHHOUSE sits in conversation with the exhibition Sunlighting. She is joined by Amber Esau and kī anthony whose work explores the complex interweaving of cultural norms, power dynamics, and daily life.

Biography

Joanna Cho / 조은선 is the author of People Person, published by Te Herenga Waka Press, which was shortlisted for the 2022 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. She was born in Korea, moved to Tāmaki Makaurau at the age of two, and currently lives between Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington and Tūrangi. She studied for a BA, a graduate diploma in publishing, and a master's in creative writing.

Amber Esau is a Sā-Māo-Rish (Ngāpuhi / Manase) writer of things from Tāmaki Makaurau. She is a poet, storyteller, and professional bots. She is the co-editor of Queer poetry anthology Spoiled Fruit and has recently received residencies from the Michael King writers centre as an emerging Pasifika writer and from the Basement theatre for Ideas in Residence.

kī anthony (they/他) was born in Singapore to Indian & Chinese parents whom they disappoint every day. Their poetry has been published in bad apple, Sweet Mammalian, The Spinoff, a micro-chap em dash criminal, and anthologies like Hustling Verse and Spoiled Fruit. A sex worker, tech worker, and lifelong prison abolitionist, they love making art which teems with sensate specificity.
